2008 PRESIDENT'S REPORT
As president I would firstly like to thank the members that elected me at the 2007 AGM and gave me the opportunity to again lead this great club, a responsibility I personally along with the rest of the dedicated committee take very seriously.

2008 although very enjoyable and rewarding on much level was again ultimately frustrating, while as a committee can turn to non football related matters to measure success we are all involved to enjoy on field success. The results but no means reflected the time & effort John Brown, Dean Warren and the assistants dedicated to this group, in addition the players themselves continually gave their best and we commend them on a gallant year. However and please make clear this is not a reflection on any player or coach but were simply not good enough – yes for a variety of reasons, many beyond our control but as a club we need to realise last years result will not be acceptable moving forward. To this point the football season has not stop for many and we have moved swiftly to ensure we improve results for 2009 and beyond.

The club is pleased to announce John Brown as senior coach for 2009, yes other options were explored as the club will continue to act diligently and makes no concessions for this however, despite the calibre of interested candidates it was clear that John is the best man for the job and deserves the opportunity to take this group to the success he has set them on the path for. Brad Tuite is returning to the club in a coaching capacity as reserves coach and the club is delighted to have his services, success is something that seems to follow Brad and we are sure he will deliver many successes in 2009. In other exciting news the club not only welcomes back colts for 2009 but welcomes U16 premiership coach Frank Salanitri to the senior coaching ranks, Frank and the U16 were one of the biggest highlights of 2008 and while the primary aim is to have a participating colt’s team you know with Frank involved they won’t just be competitive. Welcome to all coaches and congratulations on your appointments we are looking forward to a successful 2009 and beyond.

I also need to recognize the significant contribution of our valued sponsors & members, without your support there would not be a club and that is not a passing comment. The cost associated with running a football club continues to increase across all departments. The on-going viability of this club remains firmly in the hands of the members, sponsors and players without you there is no show. I hope myself and the rest of the committee have represented you well over the last 12 months, as this has been our endeavour, and we look forward to your continued support.

Lastly I would like to thank the committee, this group of people is the heart beat of the club and I am proud to such a hard working, relentless, honest team. While meetings discussion on occasions becomes intense this indicates the passion each of the committee has for the Forest Hill Football club. This team is not dictated by on field results, but honestly this is all they care about. This team has raised significant amounts of money to continue upgrading club facilities, football equipments and the football department to ensure a continually improving product both on and off field. I mean with great sincerity that each of the committee deserves so much more that my praise today but I would like to thank them personally. I would hope others involved with the club show their appreciation through out. However in a fashion that best describes this team all they want is on field success. We will continue doing our bit to ensure we give the players the best possible opportunity.

I alson need to make special mention of the following members who will not be involved officially for 2009 but no doubt they will remain involved with the club. To Glen “Hando” Heatley, Howard “Couger” Barclay and Damien “Cheating dog goal umpire” Gallagher thank you for your continued work and dedication to the footy club, this club will always have its doors open in recognition of your contribution. However I can’t see any of you becoming a stranger to this club, but if I see you here more than twice a week you will be automatically re-instated to the committee, Cougar empty that bin!

Thank you for the opportunity I have enjoyed the year but again have the burning desire to lead this club into 2009 and deliver the success we all deserve.

FUTURE LEADER: LUKE WILSON
Congratulations to Forest Hill's own Luke Wilson who graduated his FHFC and EFL sponsored 2008 "Future Leaders Development Program". The course, an outstanding initiative, includes modules covering leadership, communication, nutrition, personal finance and the business of sport. Luke was identified by the club as a young man of great character who will be a genuine asset to the club over the coming years.

Luke took the course extremely seriously and his efforts paid off, with Luke being named Student of the Year by Mark Freeman and EFL Chairman Graham Halbish at the graduation ceremony on 3 September, 2008. Watch out for the details in Leader newspapers over the following week.

The Forest Hill Football Club is a great advocate for the course and nominations are welcome for 2009 participants. Please forward your nominations to The Secretary, FHFC.

FHFC thank and congratulate the EFL and Mark Freeman in particular for his dedication to the program over the previous two years.
